Lesson 4: How to Quickly Adjust Your Wig
Your wig will move throughout the day — here's how to fix it fast, without damaging the lace.
Here's the hard truth: your wig will move throughout the day. We aren't mannequins — we move, and so do our wigs. That means learning to quickly and confidently adjust your wig while you're out and about is a genuinely important skill worth mastering. First, let's talk about what you should — and shouldn't — do to your wig.
Lace Front Wigs Are Delicate
The hairline is what makes a wig look realistic, since it recreates your natural hairline — but it's also one of the most delicate parts of the wig. At SPARX, our everyday wigs are made with a 1" Swiss lace, the softest lace on the market, which melts seamlessly into lighter skin tones. But that softness comes with fragility — the lace front is typically the first part of a wig to show wear, which is exactly why we want to handle it as little as possible.
Products like It Stays (a water-based adhesive), Got2B hairspray, or Ghost Bond will dramatically shorten your wig's lifespan — but a lot of women feel like they need these products because their lace front won't sit flat without them. That's exactly why we offer five cap sizes with a 1/8" folded Swiss lace front: because the wig is properly sized to fit you, and our lace is folded with single hand-tied knots, you shouldn't need adhesives or sprays at all — which helps your wig last much longer.
Don't Tuck or Pull on Your Lace Front
As tempting as it is to tuck or pull at your lace front while you're out and about, try to resist. That tucking motion pulls on the knots, causing them to loosen over time, and it can also stretch out the lace — which is genuinely one of the worst things that can happen to a wig.
How to Adjust Your Wig Without Touching the Lace Front
By now, you should have a solid foundation on your wig's cap construction. Here's how to adjust it easily, without ever pulling on the lace or top of the wig.
Step 1 — Locate the tip of the ear tab
This is where the stay begins — the bendable "L"-shaped section. This point is your anchor for adjusting the wig without touching the lace or top at all.
Step 2 — Push inward, then up
Grab the tip of the ear tab, push inward, then up. Done correctly, this lets you easily shift your wig forward or back into position.
Step 3 — If it's too far back to fix this way
Sometimes a quick adjustment isn't enough. If that happens, find a bathroom, take the wig off, turn on your phone's camera, and put it back on using our full guide on how to put on a wig.
How to Check Your Wig Throughout the Day
The reality is your wig is going to shift throughout the day, so mastering a quick self-check is what makes wig life feel effortless. Maybe you feel like it's sitting too far back, or maybe someone glances at you a beat too long — either way, you can't always run to a mirror.
By now you know your lace front should sit three to four finger-widths from the arch (peak) of your eyebrow. You should be able to feel the edge of the lace right at your third or fourth finger — that feeling is your check. Over time, you'll be able to sense this without even looking in a mirror; the goal is for it to become second nature, where you can just reach up and instantly know if the wig has shifted.
That instinct takes practice, so the more often you check this way, the faster it becomes second nature. In the beginning, don't be afraid to use your phone camera to double-check your placement — there's no shame in it, and it's exactly how this skill gets built.
