How to Store Your Human Hair Wig Between Wears?

A little care before storage goes a long way toward keeping your wig soft and shed-free.

How you store your Human Hair wig between wears matters just as much as how you wash and style it — improper storage is one of the most common causes of tangling, breakage, and shedding we see.

Before You Store It

Wash and condition the wig using our full washing guide, and let it air-dry completely before putting it away. Storing a wig while it's still damp can cause mildew, odor, and damage to the cuticle.

Wrap and Protect

  • Place tissue paper inside the cap to help maintain the shape.
  • Cover the hair with a hairnet to prevent tangling while it's stored.
  • Place the wrapped wig inside a ziplock bag or another airtight container to keep out dust, moisture, and humidity. An airtight container will preserve a human hair wig for decades.

Avoid Squishing It

Unlike Luxury Synthetic hair, which can handle some squishing without lasting damage, Human Hair needs to be stored without pressure or crushing. Compression can cause tangling, matting, and permanent shape distortion that's much harder to reverse in real hair than in synthetic fiber. Whenever possible, store your wig laid flat or gently supported, rather than packed tightly.
