How to Detangle a Luxury Synthetic Wig?
Revive dry, fuzzy ends in under 10 minutes — no new wig required.
Over time, all synthetic wigs — even Luxury Synthetic hair — will develop dry, fuzzy ends. But that doesn't mean it's time to toss your wig! Your Luxury Synthetic hair can be revived in less than 10 minutes. Think of this as a deep conditioning treatment, just for synthetic hair.
All you need is a water bottle, a flat iron, and a teasing brush.
What You'll Need
- Petite Rubber Mannequin Head — aka "home base." This mannequin is petite so it won't stretch out your wig, and the rubber base lets you secure your wig with wig pins while the hairline outline helps you "set" your wig and maintain its natural dome shape.
- Stable heavy tripod
- Wig Pins — unlike T-pins, these won't pull the hair when you brush your wig.
- Wig Brush — the flexible design lets you brush through gently without pulling on hair or knots, which can cause shedding.
- Wig Setting Brush / Teasing Brush — this boar/nylon teasing brush helps you redirect knots and hair, making it the ultimate tool for your weekly wash.
- Spray bottle filled with water
- Flat iron — we prefer the L'Oréal Steampod or something similar because it's a flat iron with steam built in and the comb attaches so it makes restoring a synthetic super easy and low key.
Steps
Step 1 — Brush
Using a wig brush, gently brush your hair starting at the bottom and working your way up to the top of the wig.
Step 2 — Set your temperature
Set your flat iron to 285–305°F (140–150°C).
Step 3 — Section the hair
Grab the bottom section of the wig and clip the rest of the hair out of the way. Take a 1/2"–1" section, mist it with water, and gently brush it through.
Step 4 — Smooth with the flat iron
Push the section of hair through the brush bristles, then place the flat iron just above the brush. Work slowly — counting "1000, 1001, 1002" — it should take about 20 seconds to reach the bottom of the section.
Step 5 — Add curls (optional)
Turn on your curling iron and mist the hair. Tightly roll the section into the curling iron and hold for 20 seconds. Release, then hold the curl in your hand for another 20 seconds to let it cool and set.
Pro tip: Alternate the barrel direction (left and right) for a more natural look.
- Beachy waves (loose & bouncy): 1.5"–2" barrel
- Glamorous curls (wavy & curly): 1"–1.25" barrel
- Tight curls: 3/8"–3/4" barrel
That's it — you're done! The best part: your hair will feel amazing and air-dry beautifully for two to three months.
